4-(1-Methylcyclopropyl)butanoic aicd - Introduction
4-(1-methylcyclopyl) butanoic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula C8H14O2. The following is a description of its nature, use, preparation and safety information:
Nature:
4-(1-methylcyclopyl) butanoic acid is a colorless to light yellow liquid with a special smell. It has a density of 0.964g/cm³, a melting point of -79.1°C, and a boiling point of 261-262°C. It is moderately polar, soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, dichloromethane and diethyl ether, and slightly soluble in water.
Use:
4-(1-methylcyclopyl) butanoic acid is an organic synthesis intermediate. It is commonly used in the synthesis of compounds such as pharmaceuticals, fragrances and pesticides. Because of its high stereoselectivity due to its cyclopropane structure, it is widely used in organic synthesis.
Preparation Method:
4-(1-methylcyclopropyl)butanoic acid can be prepared by hydrogenation of methyl cyclopropylacrylate. First, methyl cyclopropylacrylate is reacted with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst to obtain 4-(1-methylcyclopropyl) butanol. Subsequently, 4-(1-methylcyclopropyl) butanol is subjected to an oxidation reaction to give the corresponding acid.
Safety Information:
4-(1-methylcyclopyl) butanoic acid is irritating and should be avoided in contact with skin and eyes for a long time. During operation, appropriate protective measures should be provided, such as wearing protective glasses, gloves and protective clothing. Avoid inhaling aerosols or dust and ensure well-ventilated operation. When using or handling this compound, please refer to the safety data sheet and properly dispose of waste. When storing and transporting, please keep it in a cool, dry and airtight container, away from fire and oxidizing agents.
